EVs have long been known for their eco-friendliness and quiet, smooth driving, but the latest models go further in offering genuine utility. They’re available in a wide range of sizes, from compact cars to three-row SUVs. And they’re often among the quickest vehicles in their market segments.
While Newest electric vehicles were once criticized for their limited interior space, many of the new models are more spacious than the traditional counterparts they replace. This gives them room for more people, and their large batteries allow them to travel further on a single charge. The result is a comfortable, functional interior that rivals those found in many gas-powered vehicles.
Kia’s 2024 EV6 is a small five-seat electric crossover that’s hard to miss thanks to its distinctive, sculpted bodywork and ultra-modern interior. Its driving dynamics, from neck-snapping acceleration to agile handling, are also impressive. Sales have slowed since its debut, but the company will be hoping to rekindle interest when it refreshes the model later this year.
Volkswagen’s venture into bespoke electric cars got off to a rocky start, but the ID.7 addresses quality and ergonomic concerns that plagued previous electric VWs. It’s also more luxurious than previous EVs, with a large and spacious interior that’s ideal for long trips. A larger ID.7 Tourer estate model will also be coming to the U.S. in late 2024.
After impressing with the 2022 Air sedan, Lucid Motors will follow up with the 2024 Gravity SUV. It’s a three-row model that should offer genuine family-friendly space and a luxury cabin, along with truly impressive EV credentials, including a 440-mile driving range.
Other manufacturers are also adding to their EV offerings. Fisker is expanding its Ocean platform to include a pickup truck, the Alaska, and a four-door luxury car called the Ronin. It’s expected to be priced below $50,000 and feature a 400-mile battery range.
Chrysler hasn’t said when its long-awaited electric version of the discontinued Charger sedan will arrive, but spy photos suggest it will be very similar to the Charger Daytona SRT Concept electric muscle car shown in 2022. It will use a dual-motor drivetrain and a 542 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.
Until recently, the midsize EV segment was mostly filled with slow and uninspiring options, but the 2024 Nissan Leaf SV Plus now offers a better interior than its predecessor and more cargo capacity. Rivals like the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV are more spacious, but they cost more and don’t offer as much range. The aging Chevrolet Bolt EV has been dropped from the lineup, while the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Volkswagen ID.4 offer more utility in a sportier package, but they’re also pricier than the Leaf.
